Cricbuzz.com: Cricbuzz.com: IPL not responsible for India's T20 WC debacle: Modi

  • K.V. RAJAGOPAL · 5 months ago
Yes, Mr. Modi is absolutely right Some say, IPL is good some say not good Sri Lankan players played in the IPL and yet qualified for T-20 In fact, I would say that IPL was a good platform for the players to go for T-20 World Cup That experience must have been very useful If the players had fatigue then I would say that it is not merely playing in IPL for T-20 Throughout the year players were playing and that could have been the reason Players could have taken some break in between So Gary Kirsten's saying that playing in IPL has caused fatigue and that is the reason for Indian team's downfall is not acceptable. I am in line with Mr. Modi.

I do not agree with you...IPL has certainly caused fatigue both physically and mentally..
India had to play continously throughout the year without any gap...Noone can sustain such rigorous schedules..And it was such a long tournament that most of the key players were out of contention for selection..
So this IPL is certainly a cause for the WC debacle but it is not the only cause...

don't bluff.... IPL makes the players sprit in terms of money. See most of the indian players who played in T20 WC , in IPL they fielded, batted and bowled well or atleast they tried their level best... but in T20 WC they never wanted to fell down to stop the ball even in Do or Die matches... wat it shows? once you started to show smell of money to them its very tough to get them back to play well

Its like grapes gone sour...had India done well at the WC, all praise would have been heaped on IPL...now that they did not, IPL is the scapegoat...lets accept the fact we did not play well and hence we lost...make players accountable rather than tournaments...public want to see cricket round the year...if players can't play, let them take a voluntary break and rest/recuperate whatever...the show must go on...and the best should play...else bring in new talent...also performance must be the key and not stature...the sooner the indian board learn it and put into practice, the better...Amen!

MR.Modi is right.IPL is giving international exposure to many domestic players...IPL is giving players like manish pandey, ravinder jadeja, yusuf pathan, dhawal kulkarni. sudeep tyagi, abhishek nayar...Yuvraj singh'rohit sharma, suresh raina have emerged as good bowlers...Rudra pratap singh is back in his form ...Players may take rest if they r tiried but IPL is not the cause...............
  • fan · 5 months ago
yuvraj, sharma, raina are good bowlers only in IPL..we all saw how RP Singh bowled in WC..Its easy to perform in IPL since there is no pressure...Its only abt money..the sooner IPL stops the better it is for cricket

Every one first trys to justify thier agenda, thought process or creation.
I see both Modi and Kirsten got some point, but they probably haven't put it in right words. Or perhaps media used these words.

Indian team has been playing matches for almost 6 months with out much break before IPL itself. That doesn't do good to any human. If they did not have IPL, they could have done well at T20 world cup. That doesn't mean IPL is the cause.

Yes if someone has good break before IPL, IPL could help set the ground for T20 world cup. Now who is right? Its not a question of who's right. They both have point, that we need to take. This is some thing BCCI need to consider and improvize thier future planning. As we see scenarios we improve. This is pretty much begining of the times that we have so much cricket.

If you look at IPL player performances, on batting side indians didn't perform as much as other countries. They are already worn out by then a little bit, and IPL took some more jiuce of it. Yes the Indian bowlers did well at IPL, but perhaps not that great at T20 world cup. Hey we always win some lose some. Thats the game. Indian team performance is still really good, considering that they won the series at West Indies. Lets see what more can they do. Perhaps it is opportunity for more players that the usual 15 to 20 players to participate in the big matches. While some are resting others participate. Over all, there is still lot to relish in the game, without agony, but learning from the oversights, and adopt quickly without creating controversies, and enjoying the game. Apologes to those who love controversies. :)

Hey look at Australian team. They made big brouhaha of IPL affecting WC. Then
they didnt qualify for even for super-8 stage. So why IPL is affecting only
Indians? Main problem is money -big mooolah! All these player earned money
for the whole the year and they didnt want to giveup it with taking breaks.
Playing for country they get peanuts (only some free treatment if they get
injured in bonanza earning matches -like Sehvag) So they hide injuries and get
selected for WC and when it comes to giving performance they flop.
BCCI has selectors and doctors in kahoot with players and they get selected
    even when unfit like Munaf.
ICC should make rule that if players get injured in IPL then they should be treated at the expense of IPL and not their respective boards.
But who is going bell Modi---errr CAT ?

person who says IPL is bad, has no idea about what exactly cricket is. We cant blame IPL for indian cricket bad performance.
    Mr. Modi is absolutely right.

we want IPL in SA again..Last time we enjoy lot...What an atmosphere..

He is definitely wrong...2 months of IPL is the main reason as Kirsten said for World Cup failure...may be cutting it down to 1 month is better
They may be physically fit, but they are definitely mentally drained after 2 months of IPL...especially captain
and they had very little time for planning...as it is a world cup they should definitely not take it lightly...
As for Sri lankans and others they just enjoyed while playing the IPL...they did not put too much mental energies into it...look at pakis...they looked very fresh...where as Indians looked liked they needed some rest

Who force INDIAN PLAYERS to play IPL....Don`t complain..Accept defeat...Not end of the world.....
  • Mrinal Dey · 5 months ago
I guess they simply do not have a choice there, but would be happy to see the players taking the lead and if they feel fatigued, they should on their own take rest..

Well if MS Dhoni can skip a test series for some rest, i don't see why people should not treat IPL the same way.

The players need to remember that after all if they don't play for India and Win soooner or later they will be chucked out of IPL as well....

  • K.V. RAJAGOPAL · 5 months ago
Yes, Mr. Badal you are absolutely right. Person who says IPL is bad, has no idea of T-20 cricket. You get terrific exposure in IPL as players throughout the world participate. A junior player can rub shoulders with the senior and reputed player It msut have done lot of good to Badrinath and Raina to be in the same team with Mathew Hayden as they can gather lot of inputs from the genius. It is fatigue caused because of playing throughout the year and not IPL. In fact, IPL just before T-20 World Cup was a good platform to hone up skills.
